Sicarii vs. Celebrity Cell – My perspective

Sicarii vs. Celebrity Cell – My perspective

As I write this, I have to say one thing, just to be clear – I am not shitting on Celebrity Cell. That’s not my goal. I just want to express my disappointment. Also, for the rest of the people reading this, just know – I have insight into where Cell was. I talked to him beforehand. I battled in the same room. I joked with him. I also have a unique perspective, because I‘ve also battled, and lost to now the champion (although Dirt told me on the phone he thought I got it… which still it crazy to me) – I had a shitty night that night as well – I had just gotten back into the ring after a 9 month hiatus, and did not live up to my own expectations. But I didn’t give anything up. I didn’t quit rap. I didn’t back down, and now I have the drive back to prove myself to people again. I didn’t decide to move on or give up anything because I didn’t live up to my own expectations, though I can tell you, it is a hard pill to swallow. I decided to move forward and grow from the negative experience and use it to grow. I wish Cell had spit what he had for his third… or at least done what he could to fill his time, and taken the lumps during that round so that he would have the fire in his heart for a comeback.

I often find that when I feel disappointed, it is because I interacted with the truth. I had an idea of what I thought the truth was, and then it showed me what it really was, and now I have to deal with whatever it is. When I met Cell in 2012, I didn’t know he was dope. All I knew is he was supposed to battle and it wasn’t happening. The reason behind why isn’t really interesting, but then the situation happened again and he was ducked a second time. aLiterate stepped up and stood in the spot of whoever was supposed to be there, and Cell’s performance blew me away. People weren’t sure if he was the truth at that point though, as a lot of the bars he spit were for someone else… but I mean, I saw it. It was dope. The footage doesn’t capture the energy in the room. I instantly recognized the skill.

Fast forward two years. Cell’s battle with DNA happens. I thought Cell absolutely killed it. He impressed me. Sicarii went on to win every battle he had… (Except Dirt. And that’s a heavy debatable…) and then, one day early this year, the idea was tossed around of the chain being a thing. So here we are.

While I was prepping for the event, my mind wasn’t right. I had a lot of crazy things going on in my personal life. But as a fan, I was looking forward to my battle being over and just taking this in as a fan.

Sicarii is a top notch writer and performer. He deserves to be the champ, without a doubt. Cell is an out of the box thinker, and I saw him as a potential for the chain, but I knew he’d have to work really, really, REALLY fucking hard for it.  I was looking forward to a classic bar fest. And that third… it just didn’t happen. And I’m disappointed as fuck.

Cell should not have booked the battle if he did not want the chain.

I’ve been in hiphop doing my thing for a long time now. Not as long as the golden giants, obviously, but I’ve met a lot of emcees. I’ve seen greatness and failures in basically all of them. And in battle rap, I’ve seen cherry picker types, the ones that only book battles they think they can win… I’ve seen the types that can’t admit their failures in order to analyze and move past them – blaming others for their downfall… I’ve seen people get served hard and disappear… And for the first time, I’ve seen an emcee that I thought, to a certain extent, was above all of them, fall hard. Not because you were losing, but because you didn’t follow through. You wanted to prove yourself as the champion, and you didn’t. If I’m feeling this bad about it, I can’t imagine how he must feel.

I’ve lost battles. I’ve won them, too. Wins and losses are not what define your worth in hiphop, but your ability to press on, move forward, and train yourself to do better, THAT is what will do it. A lot of emcees think because they win a battle, they’re getting somewhere, or that if they lose, something is being taken from them. I thought with how great Cell’s performances were, he was going to do what he could to get that chain. Him laying down in the third was just awful… worse that having an off round. You can survive any failure.

Cell, I’m writing this now, hoping you are reading it – come back. The story of my entire career in music is surviving failure. Before I struck out as a solo artist, I kept getting into groups/bands that would kick me out or fall apart, and none of them are shit. I rely on myself. You can come back into this and be one of the most feared emcees on the east coast. I’m disappointed, but I believe in you. If you truly are ending your journey here, looking back on this 10, 20 years from now, you’re not going to be happy with yourself. I don’t want that for any of my friends.

Get your ass back in the ring.

My vote for battle of the year from iBattle: Sicarii vs. Dego Diavolo

Sicarii is that dude. Dego (my PBX brother in arms) is also that dude. When you have two dudes battle, who are on that level, they tear each other to pieces. This battle has EVERYTHING. I have no idea why the views are so low on this… this should have at least 100K at this point.

I don’t get the audiences of this shit. At the time of this, I started updating the banner. This needs more views.

Brash vs. Sicarii

Despite the battle rap bias that comes from human nature, you gotta be honest with yourself more than anything else. I went to battle Sicarii knowing that I was up against a monster. Traveled out of my safety zone in CT to Mass, all by my lonesome, to do what I do.

Some people take this battle shit WAAAYYYYYYYY too seriously… like losing means you’re wack. I mean, I don’t take this lightly… and I had a bunch of people telling me they thing that I won. There were people at the battle asking for overtime, which was really flattering to me. But staying honest… Sicarii got me.

It’s cool tho… losing a battle happens to the best of us. There are emcees that talk a battle game on record, but never step into that ring.

…and so you all know, I’m not trying to post a bunch of shit about myself. I feel Sic had a DOPE performance for this battle, and it needs some attention here.

The 413 Battle League is something else, for real… good people. Shout outs to our friends in Mass!
